Politics;Abortion;Religion;Teen Pregnancy/Violence; Race in America

Politics
I really do not have anything to say about politics. I could sit here and make up lies, but I am choosing not to. I hope this does not affect my grade Mrs. Snell!! =)
Abortion
Abortion, I think is initially up to the person who is pregnant. I think that if a woman feels that she will not be able to provide for the child, then it is okay. I also believe that if someone does not want to get pregnant then they should make sure that they are using birth control, contraceptive, or not having sex at all. I do not think you should abuse the privilege of abortions.
Religion
I personally believe in Christianity. I believe that there is one and only one god and not that white man that they paint in pictures, the one that is described in the bible. I believe that Heaven and hell exists and that there is a devil. I may not be the most Christian person walking around but I do attend church every Sunday and not forcefully, I get up myself, get in my car and go willingly, I even bring friends along with me sometimes. I believe that they need to be in church as much as the next person.
Teen Pregnancy/Violence
Teen pregnancy is highly preventable. Most teens that get pregnant, want to be pregnant. I am not saying that all of them do but many do it intentionally. Some do it because they want someone to love and somebody to love them back. Other teens just want to be grown, they think that everything is a game, and raising a child will not be hard and time consuming. Teen violence is absolutely unacceptable, especially if it is a female/male situation. There is nothing to be said. In either a bullying situation, altercation or whatever the cause may be, if you do not know what to do tell someone. If you do not know what to do somebody else will and if they do not then call the police.
Race in America
Is there still race in America? Yes there absolutely is. White people do not like Black people, light skinned people do not like Mexicans, and so on and so forth. With me I really do not care because I do not care what color, race or blood type you are. If I want to be your friend, talk to you, or date you I am going to do so.

The Ron Clark Story

I think that this was a very good movie. It is a family movie and it is great for anyone to watch. This movie was about a teacher who started teaching at a school in the slums and turned the students into something that they never thought that they could be. He was a teacher who had faith in all of his students including the defiant and disrespectful students, which had no faith in themselves and neither did their own parents. Mr. Clark changed the his whole class. He stopped them from doing things that they had no business. He almost gave up on his students but he was talked into going back to school. He was a great teacher and he cared about his students; he saved his students from failure.

College Recruitment Fair (Albany && Fort Valley State)

On Thursday, September 5, 2009 I visited the Trade Center for a recruitment fair. There were two different schools there which were Albany State University and Fort Valley State University. At the fair we were able to gain much knowledge. I learned about requirements that would be needed to attend school (Albany) such as SAT and ACT scores, and grade point averages. I had fun at the fair. I was informed about FAFSFA and many other financial aid choices. The students and alumni of Albany State were very nice and entertaining. They made me feel at home and they said "Even if you do not attend Albany State, go somewhere and do something," so not only do they want you to attend Albany, they want you to be something regardless to what you do and where you go. I believe that this is a great option for college for someone fresh out of high school or for someone who decides to go back to school. I would love to attend Albany State University.

Servant or Leader

Which am I, a servant or a leader? Personally I think that I am a little of both. I believe that I am a servant because I give out a lending hand when I think it is needed. I give donations to charities. I am a leader because I normally have to step up and do things on my own and sometimes fill in the shoes of others. I take part in both servant ship and leadership on a daily basis. I believe that being a servant is no easy task and neither is being a leader. For both you must make some tough decisions. It is fine to be a leader or servant, and if you are a leader know you will one day have to be a servant and if you are a servant know then you will one day be a leader.

Columbus Bank & Trust Speakers

When Heather Horn was here speaking on behalf of savings and credit she let us know about different types of savings accounts and savings bonds. There are many ways that you can save and earn money through banks and credit unions. She also told us how people get bad credit and how they could prevent from getting bad credit. She spoke on how to prevent and how to deal with identity theft, if this ever happens to you. Kwame Smith talked about careers in banking and budgets. He taught us that everyone should learned how to live with a budget because at one point in your life you will have to. He told us about the many different careers you can pursue in banking such as working your way up to be a manager or being an accountant. Both Ms. Horn and Mr. Smith made a big impact on my future banking skills and I thank them for sharing the information that they did with me.

Greystone Apartments

The speaker on Thursday, October 15, 2009 talked about the locations of their apartment properties. They also talked about the price ranges and what you can and can not do on these properties. To live on Greystone properties you have to be a certain age to be a lease holder, you have to make a certain amount of money, and you must have good credit but no credit is better than bad credit. You do not have to worry about any maintenance problems. The apartments do not come with washers and dryers, but you can use the laundromat on the property or rent a washer and dryer, paying monthly payments. I believe that Greystone Properties would be a nice place to live.

Respect

I feel that respect is a very important factor in life. I also feel that you have to give respect to get it. Respect is the way that you treat another person regardless if it is your mother, father, grandparents, siblings, or even strangers. I believe that everyone who gives respect, deserves it in return. I do not think that age is irrelevant when it comes to respect. It does not matter if you are one, twenty-three, or sixty-two. I feel that you should be respected and that you should give respect at all times.

River Road Pharmacy Catches Fire

On Sunday, September 27, 2009 River Road Pharmacy caught on fire and required some firefighters to be carried from the blaze. Wittness say they spotted the fire around about 9:30 that night and Timothe Humphrey (Witness) called 911. Moments later the Columbus EMS and Fire and Rescue arrived. By 10:00 p.m. the Pharmacy billowed with grey smoke. Many fire fighters were trapped in the building and had to be rescued or found their way out. The smoke gave way to flames around 10:25 p.m. They grew from the building’s rear, only yards from a tree line. Water issued from a ladder truck, making the flames disappear for moments before they grew again. At 11:00 p.m. firemen were still fighting the flames. The cause of the fire is unknown at the time.

Kanye West Disses Taylor Swift

In all honestly I love Kanye West but what he did was totally out of line. I think that what Kanye did was very inappropriate and beyond disrespectful. He had to be under the influence of some kind of drugs or alcohol. I feel that you should treat others how you would like to be treated and I do not feel that he displayed that on Sunday night. He was not the judge of weather she deserved an award or not. It really is not any of his business. If it was anyone’s place to say something, it should have been Beyonce’ not Kanye. If it was one of his friends or family receiving an award he would not want anyone to handle them that way so I feel he should have given Taylor Swift the same respect. Regardless if he thought she had a good video or not. I am glad that Beyonce’ was the bigger person last night and actually gave Taylor her moment to shine. I am also glad that Kanye apologized for what he did.

President Obama's Speech

Personally, I think that this was a very influencing speech to children and young adults all around America. President Obama was basically just telling everyone that they can be some one; regardless to where you came from, it does not determine where you will go in life. No matter how many burdens that try to stop you or how hard you think your life is, it can always be worse. It is also true that someone else has a life far more worse than yours. It makes no sence for you to be getting a free education and then choose not to use it. He was also explaining that he also had a hard life and he still made something of himself. His father left him and his mother when he was only two. He was raised by a single mother. President Barack Obama took advantage of his education and this opened up many doors for him.

Ex-Morehouse Student Sentenced to Life in Prison

I recieved my current event from the Ledger Enquirer. It was published on Monday, August 31, 2009. This news article is about a Ex-Morehouse student from Jonesboro, Georgia getting sentenced to life in prison for killing one of his former classmates. A Clayton County Superior Court Judge, Deborah Bennefield sentenced Miles Allen to two life sentences plus seven years in prison on Monday in the 2006 killing of Carlnell Walker. The jury convicted Allen on 11 of 12 counts, including murder, aggravated assault, and kidnapping. He is one of four men charged with murder of Carnell Walker. Prosecutors say that his murder involved eight hours of torture. Allen stomped, beat, stabbed, and doused Walker with gasoline before dumping him inside of a car trunk outside of Walker's house.

Cell Phone Policy

I do not agree with the new cell phone policies at all. I think that it is very unfair for the administrators to be able to take things that do not even belong to them. I think that they should just write the student up, suspend them, or give them in school suspension like it has always been. Honestly I do not think that cell phones are that big of a distraction to my school. Personally I think that the staff at my school should be worried about our school making ayp because we did not mak it last school year. It is not fair at all expecially when they are not even paying the phone bill and cell phones also help students in emergencies.
